875 Broadway Bowling Green, Ky. 42101
Feburary 15, 1974 is the official date of the start of Poston Electronics, although the actual origins of of this enterprise goes
back to the mid 1960's. It actually started out as Cary Electronics by Mr. Irvin Cary. Mr. Cary started a small radio, CB, and snanner
business in the bottom of the old Helm Hotel in downtown Bowling Green. After the Hotel burned in a fire around 1967, Mr. Cary then
moved his operation to the Western Gateway Center. Due to health reasons, Mr. Cary decided to sale his business in 1974. At
that time I was working for a large retail electronics chain in Louisville. with family and friends back here, I considered
it a geat oppertunity to move back and be involved in what I had learned to love, the world of electronics. With the help
of family and friends, the purchase of Cary Electronics evolved into the era of Poston Electronics.
Electronics really started
to change and evolve. FM radio was emerging as a main source of music, then it went "Stereo". Eight -track tape players
and Reel to Reels gave way to Cassette tape players. Turntable record players were hot for years and then CD players started to show
up. Early 4-channel systems came and went. The largest TV's were 25" and Beta and VHS vcr's became the new excitement, really
amazing in their time. Car stereos evolved with EQ's, Amps, better 6 by 9's, seperate tweeters and woofers.
By the mid
1980's we were needing more room and along came the opurtunity to purchase the current property at 875 Broadway. Altought it was old,
built in 1909, and was in need of much loving care, we did a major makeover added a garage for car installation bays and
moved in November of 1986. VCR's gave way to DVD's, Surround sound systems evolved, TV's became large rear screen projectors,
the concept of home theater was born. Car audio was the hottest rage with large amplifiers and big sub-woofers, then alarms and on
and on. Electronics were as exciting as ever!
And here we are today, Home Theater, Whole house music, distributed audio
/ video, digital satellite TV, extended remote control, HDTV, satelite radio, mobile video, navigation, flat screen displays,
and it is still ever changing!
Now, some 33 years later, we are still enjoying the ever changing world of electronics.
